GEAR DETAILED INFORMATION

General Information of Gear

A gear is a rotating machine part which meshes with another toothed part in order to transmit torque. An advantage of gears is that the teeth of a gear prevent slippage. Two important concepts in gearing are pitch surface & pitch angle. The pitch surface of gear is the imaginary toothless surface that you would have by averaging out the peaks & valley of the individual teeth. The pitch surface of an ordinary gear is the shape of a cylinder. The pitch angle of a gear is the angle between the face of the pitch surface and
the axis.
Types Of Gear :

Spur Gears

Spur Gears

Spur gears are the simplest type of gears.Parallel & co-planer shafts connected by gears are called spur gears.Spur gear have straight teeth & are parallel to the axis of the wheel. The advantage of spur gears are their simplicity in design & economy of manufacture & maintenance.

SIZE AVAILABLE - 0.5 MODULE TO 12 MODULE ( 2 DP TO 16 DP)

Helical Gears

Helical Gears

Helical gears are gears where the leading edges of the teeth are not parallel to the axis of the rotation but are set at an angle. Since the gear is curved , the angling causes the tooth shape to be a segment of helix. The angled teeth engage more gradually than do spur gear teeth causing them to run more smoothing & quietly.

Bevel Gears

Bevel Gears

Bevel gears are gears where the axis of the two shafts intersect & the tooth bearing faces of the gears themselves are conically shaped.Bevel gears are most often mounted on shaft that are 90 degrees apart , but can be designed to work at other angles as well.

SIZE AVAILABLE - 2 MODULE TO 6 MODULE.

Spiral Bevel Gears

Spiral Bevel Gears

In these , Spiral bevel gears , the teeth are oblique. Spiral bevel gears are quieter & can take up more load as compared to straight bevel gears. In these , Spiral bevel gears , the teeth are oblique. Spiral bevel gears are quieter & can take up more load as compared to straight bevel gears.

Worm & Worm Wheel

Worm & Worm Wheel

A worm is a gear which has one tooth. The tooth is in the form of a screw thread.A worm wheel meshes with the worm. The worm wheel is a helical gear with teeth inclined so that they can engage with the thread like worm. The worm wheel transmits torque & rotary motion through a right angle.Worm & gear sets are a simple & compact way to achieve a high torque , low speed gear ratio.

For eg. Helical gear are normally limited to gear ratio of less than 10 : 1 while worm & gear sets vary from 10 : 1 to 500 : 1.

Racks & Pinion

Racks & Pinion

A rack & pinion is a pair of gears which convert rotational motion into linear motion. The circular pinion engages teeth on a flat bar - the rack. Rotational motion applied to the pinion will cause the rack to move to the side up to the limit of its travel.

Pinion Shaft

Pinion Shaft

A pinion shaft is a round rod that has teeth on it & is an external input shaft of certain gear operators , which drive the internal reduction gearing.

Crown & Pinions

Crown & Pinions

Crown & pinion as highly durable & efficient. The pinion threads are specially designed on thread grinders to ensure that they provide proper fitting , selective case hardening ensures that maximum strength is imparted to the pinion in order to maximize wear resistance.

Double Helical Gears

Double Helical Gears

Double helical gear may have both left hand & right hand helical teeth. The double helical form is used to balance the trust force & provide additional gear shear area
